Actors say they became friends shortly before filming the upcoming FX series
NEW YORK: Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere have shared the screen for the first time in FX’s upcoming series The Shards, more than three decades after their parents, supermodel Cindy Crawford and actor Richard Gere, ended their high-profile marriage.
Speaking to E! News on the red carpet at the New York premiere of the series, Homer Gere said he and Gerber had never met before joining the production. However, he explained that they quickly developed a friendship after meeting with the cast a few weeks before filming began.
“It’s really funny,” Homer Gere said, adding that the group first met at a bar and immediately connected before starting work on the project.
Meanwhile, Gerber humorously dismissed suggestions that the two already knew each other because of their parents’ history. When asked by the Associated Press about the connection, she jokingly replied, “What connection?”
On-screen partnership earns praise
Gerber described Homer Gere as an exceptional co-star, saying he brought humour and energy to the set throughout production.
“He makes me laugh so hard, and he’s the greatest scene partner ever,” she told E! News, praising their working relationship.
Richard Gere and Cindy Crawford married in 1991 before divorcing in 1995. Homer Gere is Richard Gere’s son with actress and model Carey Lowell, while Kaia Gerber is the daughter of Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber.
Richard Gere remains a trusted mentor
Although The Shards marks only Homer Gere’s second major acting project following his appearance in Euphoria, he said his father continues to play an important role in his career.
Rather than seeking advice on individual scenes, Homer explained that he regularly consults Richard Gere about professionalism, navigating the entertainment industry and building a sustainable acting career.
He added that he speaks with his father almost every day while filming, describing him as an invaluable source of guidance and support.
The collaboration between Gerber and Homer Gere adds a new chapter to one of Hollywood’s most well-known family connections while introducing a fresh on-screen partnership.
