LAHORE: On Friday, Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman officiated the swearing-in ceremony, where Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan took the oath as the new Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court.
The ceremony, held at the Governor House in Lahore, was attended by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, senior minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan, Justice Aalia Neelum, Justice Shahid Karim, Justice Shahid Bilal, Justice Farooq Haider, Justice Shehbaz Rizvi, Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, Deputy Attorney General Rafaqat Dogar, and senior counsels.
Justice Khan assumes the role, succeeding Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, who retired on March 7 after serving the institution for 13 years, with a tenure of two years and eight months as Chief Justice.

The newly appointed Lahore High Court Chief Justice, Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, is set to retire on March 14, 2025, upon reaching the age of 62. Following his retirement, Senior Puisne Justice Shujaat Ali Khan will succeed him as the Lahore High Court Chief Justice.
Justice Khan had previously served as the Acting Lahore High Court Chief Justice during a short term in 2022, filling in when the then Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti was abroad. Born on March 15, 1963, in Pindi Gheb, Attock district, Justice Khan brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
