Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is set to get engaged in Lahore to the granddaughter of one of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s first cousins.
Three sources confirmed that the marriage has been arranged between Junaid and the daughter of Usman Javed, whose father, Javed Shafi, is a first cousin of Nawaz Sharif.
The families, including Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Javed Shafi, met on Wednesday at Nawaz Sharif’s residence in Model Town, Lahore, where the engagement was formally agreed upon.
“The match has been settled, and the engagement will take place soon. The families will jointly decide on the dates for the nikah and engagement ceremonies,” one source said.
This will be Junaid Safdar’s second marriage. His first wedding was with Ayesha Saif, daughter of Qatar-based businessman Saifur Rehman Khan. That wedding took place in 2021 at The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge, London, while Nawaz Sharif was in exile. The couple divorced amicably in October 2023.
Junaid returned to Pakistan that same month to support his mother in her political duties.
An accomplished academic, Junaid holds four degrees from prestigious UK institutions. He earned a first-class honours degree in Politics from Durham University, followed by master’s degrees in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2020 and in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London (UCL). He also graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2022.
Beyond academics, Junaid is an avid polo player and has represented British universities in various competitions, winning several accolades.
