Pakistani actor and musician Junaid Khan has called for greater investment in independent music and diverse television content. He believes the entertainment industry should move beyond familiar commercial formulas and explore different creative opportunities.
During a conversation with Atiqa Odho, Khan discussed the challenges facing musicians and television producers. He highlighted how commercial priorities often influence investment decisions across Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
Khan said independent musicians need dedicated platforms and financial support to develop their careers. He also believes television should offer audiences more variety beyond conventional family dramas.
Junaid Khan Highlights Independent Music Opportunities
Khan recalled how dedicated music channels once provided important opportunities for emerging artists. However, changing viewing habits and commercial challenges contributed to their decline.
He explained that brands now prefer investing in drama soundtracks because these productions offer stronger commercial returns. Consequently, independent musicians receive fewer opportunities to secure sponsorships and financial backing.
Nevertheless, Khan remains optimistic about Pakistan’s music industry’s future. He praised younger artists for experimenting with different genres and creating music through digital platforms.
He also appreciated Young Stunners and Hasan Raheem for their distinctive musical styles. Furthermore, he noted that Pakistani music has reached international audiences, while Karachi’s concert culture continues expanding.
Actor Wants More Diverse Television Productions
Khan also called for television producers to explore stories beyond female-centred family dramas. He acknowledged that audience research influences programming decisions and encourages channels to prioritise popular genres.
However, he believes action, crime and thriller productions deserve greater representation. He expressed interest in exploring these genres through his own creative projects.
The actor also revealed plans to expand his work behind the camera. Although he has produced several music videos, he now wants to explore television production.
Khan described music as his personal expression and acting as an opportunity to understand human behaviour. He also emphasised balancing professional commitments, fitness and family responsibilities.
