KARACHI: The father of senior journalist Khawar Hussain has dismissed the possibility of his son’s death being a suicide, insisting that he was murdered.
Speaking to sources, he described Khawar as a courageous person who “could not have shot himself,” adding that the family had no disputes with anyone.
Khawar Hussain’s body was discovered two days ago inside a car parked outside a hotel in Sanghar, bearing a bullet wound to the temple. At the time, his family was in the United States. They returned early Monday, arriving in Karachi before traveling to Hyderabad and Sanghar.
The mysterious death has sparked outrage and concern in journalistic circles, with colleagues demanding a transparent and thorough investigation. Authorities have since formed a high-level committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Khawar, who had worked with several prominent news channels, including Aaj News, was widely respected in the media industry. His sudden death has left his family grief-stricken and raised troubling questions among friends and fellow journalists.
The dead body of Khawar was found in his car
Earlier, Khawar Hussain, a young journalist linked with a private news channel, was discovered dead inside his car on Saturday with a gunshot wound to the head, according to police officials. The shocking incident occurred near Hyderabad Road, outside a restaurant, where the vehicle had been parked.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanghar, Abid Baloch, told reporters that initial reports indicated the journalist was found slumped in the driver’s seat with a pistol in his hand and what appeared to be a self-inflicted head wound. Rescue teams promptly reached the site, while police cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence.
At first, SSP Baloch stated that Hussain had taken his own life. However, he later clarified that there was no conclusive evidence to confirm the case as a suicide. He added that it was premature to make a final determination and that the exact cause of death would only be confirmed after a post-mortem examination. This shift in the police stance has left questions unanswered, as investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s death.
Hussain, originally from Sanghar but based in Karachi, had been working in the media industry for nearly a decade. He built his career with several news organisations over the years, gaining recognition for his dedication to journalism. His untimely death has cast a shadow over colleagues and peers in the media community, who expressed deep grief at the loss.
The incident quickly drew the attention of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. Taking immediate notice, Shah directed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon to assign the investigation to the most competent officers and ensure that no angle was overlooked. He stressed the importance of conducting a thorough inquiry to establish the facts behind Hussain’s death.
The chief minister also extended his condolences to the bereaved family, praying for their courage and strength in this difficult time. Furthermore, he instructed the provincial administration to provide all necessary assistance and support to the family of the deceased journalist.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities await the post-mortem results to determine whether Hussain’s death was a case of suicide or if other factors were involved.
