Military reports no casualties as latest incident follows a series of regional drone interceptions
AMMAN: Jordan’s armed forces intercepted and shot down a drone early on Tuesday after it entered the kingdom’s airspace over the eastern desert, according to the state-run Petra news agency.
The Jordanian military said the unmanned aerial vehicle breached the country’s airspace before being intercepted. Officials confirmed that the incident caused no casualties or material damage.
The latest interception came one day after Jordan announced it had downed two drones allegedly targeting the kingdom. Around the same time, the Israeli military said it intercepted two unmanned aerial vehicles near the Jordanian border, adding that neither aircraft entered Israeli airspace.
Authorities have not identified the origin of the drones, and no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the recent incidents.
Regional drone activity raises security concerns
The latest development also follows Saudi Arabia’s announcement that its air defences intercepted and destroyed several drones launched from Iraq that were allegedly targeting oil facilities in the kingdom.
The series of interceptions has highlighted continued regional security concerns, even as military activity appears to have eased following recent hostilities involving Iran and the United States.
Officials across the region remain on alert as investigations continue into the source and intended targets of the drones.
US-Iran tensions remain in focus
The incidents occurred shortly after an Iranian military spokesperson said Tehran had suspended its military operations following a halt in US attacks over the previous two days.
Separately, Axios reported that US President Donald Trump ordered the suspension of further American strikes on Iran after nearly two weeks of military operations.
In recent weeks, tensions between Washington and Tehran have intensified, with the United States conducting strikes inside Iran and Iranian authorities responding by targeting what they described as US military facilities and equipment across the region.
Although no direct link has been established between the recent drone interceptions and the broader regional conflict, the incidents underscore the fragile security environment as governments continue to monitor developments and strengthen air defence measures against potential cross-border threats.
