Authorities seize hundreds of sacks and arrest truck driver
DEHARKI: Intelligence agencies and police carried out a joint operation in Deharki and foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle wheat worth millions of rupees, according to officials.
Police said the operation targeted a warehouse located inside a private cotton factory, where authorities recovered hundreds of sacks of wheat that were allegedly being prepared for illegal transportation. Following the raid, officials sealed the warehouse and secured the recovered stock.
According to investigators, the operation was conducted while workers were loading wheat into a container, allowing law enforcement personnel to intercept the consignment before it could leave the premises.
Authorities said the wheat, estimated to be worth millions of rupees, was allegedly being moved under the cover of darkness during late-night hours.
Warehouse sealed after raid
Police confirmed that officers immediately halted the loading process and took possession of the recovered wheat. The seized stock was subsequently handed over to the Food Department for further legal and administrative action.
Officials said the warehouse was sealed as part of the investigation, while evidence collected during the operation would help determine the intended destination of the shipment and identify those allegedly involved.
Investigation continues
Police arrested the truck driver at the scene and said legal proceedings had been initiated against the individuals believed to be responsible for the alleged smuggling attempt.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the suspects or confirmed whether additional arrests are expected. They also did not specify the exact quantity of wheat recovered during the operation.
The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement agencies continue to examine the case and trace the wider network, if any, linked to the alleged illegal transportation of wheat.
Officials reiterated their commitment to preventing the unlawful movement of essential commodities and said coordinated operations against smuggling activities would continue across the region. They added that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found involved in violating food supply and trade regulations.
