KARACHI: Jinnah International Airport is set for a major infrastructure upgrade as the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) announces plans to build a new, modern Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower along with an advanced Rescue and Fire Fighting Station (RFFS).
The project is designed to enhance air traffic management, strengthen operational safety, and improve emergency response capabilities at Pakistan’s busiest airport, according to a statement from the authority. Officials said the design phase is expected to be completed within six months, followed by a 24-month construction period.
The new facilities are being developed through a collaboration with Spain-based CEMOSA and Fairbanks Architects, combining international expertise in airport planning and advanced Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems.
A four-day inception workshop recently held at Jinnah International Airport brought together international aviation specialists and local professionals to review technical parameters and refine project requirements.
After assessing three proposed locations, PAA finalised the sites for both the ATC Tower and the RFFS to ensure full compliance with operational needs, safety standards, and future airport expansion plans.
“This initiative represents a significant milestone in PAA’s ongoing efforts to modernize critical aviation infrastructure in line with global standards and best practices,” the authority concluded.
