Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence has revived an iconic gesture from The Hunger Games to encourage Americans to vote. The Oscar-winning star shared the message during the 2026 US midterm elections.
Lawrence posted a photograph on Instagram showing her making the franchise’s famous three-finger salute. Alongside the picture, she wrote, “Midterms bb. Don’t forget who burns with us. Go vote.”
The actress also shared a link to Vote.org, helping followers find their nearest polling locations. Her message reached approximately 8.7 million Instagram followers.
Iconic Gesture Carries a Powerful Message
The three-finger salute became a recognisable symbol in The Hunger Games film franchise. It represents solidarity and resistance against the fictional Capitol’s oppressive rule.
Lawrence played Katniss Everdeen, the central character who becomes a symbol of rebellion. Her caption also referenced a memorable speech from the 2014 film Mockingjay – Part 1.
In that scene, Katniss delivers a message after authorities attack a hospital in her district. The moment marks an important turning point in her character’s fight against the Capitol.
Actress Encourages Voting Without Endorsing Candidates
Although Lawrence urged people to participate, she did not endorse any political candidate. She also avoided directly mentioning President Donald Trump in her post.
Her message nevertheless attracted attention because of its reference to resistance. Fans discussed the possible political meaning behind her choice of words.
The post also arrives ahead of Lawrence’s return to the popular film franchise. She is set to reprise Katniss in the upcoming prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
The film will also feature returning cast members Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson. It is scheduled to reach cinemas on November 20, 2026.
