US Vice President JD Vance has reportedly accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being wrong on almost everything concerning Iran, highlighting growing disagreements within the Trump administration over the conflict.
According to a report published on Thursday, Vance privately criticised Netanyahu’s assessment of Iran and repeatedly advocated a negotiated settlement instead of continued military operations.
Vance reportedly warned senior administration officials that the unpopular war could damage Republican electoral prospects. His concerns gained attention after Democrats secured control of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 midterm elections.
The vice president also argued that America’s close relationship with Israel had become a political liability for Republicans. He reportedly favoured diplomatic efforts to end hostilities and supported negotiations involving regional mediators.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has continued defending the military campaign, insisting that preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons justified the operation. He has also indicated that further military action remains possible.
The reported disagreement comes as US military forces prepare for a possible resumption of major operations against Iran. At the same time, Qatari mediators are working to secure an agreement between Washington and Tehran to prevent renewed fighting.
The developments highlight growing differences over Washington’s Iran policy and its relationship with Israel.
