Actor and artist Jamal Shah has broken his silence over serious abuse allegations made by his former wife, actress Faryal Gohar.
Gohar recently discussed her past marriage during an appearance on Good Morning Pakistan. She described the relationship as a difficult period and alleged that she experienced domestic violence and restrictions during the marriage.
Shah has rejected the allegations and said there was no domestic violence during their relationship.
Faryal Gohar Details Alleged Abuse
During the television interview, Faryal Gohar spoke openly about what she described as years of emotional and physical hardship.
She alleged that she was repeatedly beaten with leather belts during the marriage. She also claimed that she suffered physical injuries as a result of the alleged violence.
Gohar further alleged that the experiences affected her pregnancies. She said she lost a twin pregnancy and described the period as extremely painful.
According to Gohar, the difficulties eventually reached a point where she decided to seek a divorce.
She also spoke about the pressure she felt to remain in the marriage despite the problems she said she was experiencing.
Gohar described that period of her life as extremely difficult and said she eventually realised she could not continue the relationship.
Jamal Shah Denies Abuse Allegations
Jamal Shah has strongly disputed Gohar’s account of their marriage.
In his response, Shah said there was no domestic violence between the couple and described the allegations as incorrect.
The actor said he had previously avoided turning their private matters into a public dispute. However, he decided to respond after Gohar’s statements became a subject of public discussion.
Shah also rejected parts of Gohar’s account concerning pregnancy losses.
According to Shah, the couple had only one pregnancy, which ended in miscarriage after Gohar was bitten by a dog while at the Lahore residence of Muneeza Hashmi.
He said there was no second pregnancy because he spent several years studying in London. During that period, he said, the couple had not planned to have children.
Shah also denied being violent towards his former wife and rejected any suggestion that he had behaved in a misogynistic manner.
He maintained that the couple’s divorce was not caused by the alleged abuse described by Gohar.
Shah Says He Will Not Pursue Defamation Case
Despite rejecting the allegations, Shah said he does not intend to file a defamation case against Gohar.
He explained that such legal action would primarily result in financial compensation, which he said he does not need.
According to Shah, the damage to his reputation has already occurred.
The conflicting accounts have once again placed the former couple’s relationship under public scrutiny.
Both Jamal Shah and Faryal Gohar have remained prominent figures in Pakistan’s entertainment and arts communities.
Their marriage and eventual separation had previously attracted considerable public attention.
Earlier this year, the former couple also appeared together on ARY Digital’s Shan-e-Sahoor.
During that appearance, they discussed aspects of their past relationship and separation.
The latest statements have brought renewed attention to their conflicting accounts of what happened during their marriage.
As both sides have presented different versions of events, the allegations remain disputed, with Shah firmly denying the claims made by his former wife.
