ISLAMABAD: Senior incarcerated leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have urged their party’s leadership to initiate dialogue with the government. They made it clear that such talks must be contingent on meeting with party founder Imran Khan.
The proposal was outlined in an open letter signed by prominent PTI figures, including Senior Vice President Shah Mahmood Qureshi and former ministers Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ijaz Chaudhry, and Umar Sarfraz Cheema.
In the letter, the leaders warned that the country is grappling with one of the gravest crises in its history and emphasized that political dialogue remains the only viable path forward. They stressed the need for engagement not just at the political level but also with key institutions.
The signatories called for the immediate launch of political-level talks and requested that incarcerated PTI leaders in Lahore be included in the process. However, they underscored that meaningful dialogue cannot begin without first securing access to Imran Khan.
They proposed that a formal negotiation committee should be formed in consultation with the party founder and recommended that meetings with Imran Khan be held regularly to ensure consistency and strategic direction in the dialogue process.
