ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police issued a special advisory on Sunday to alert commuters about expected congestion on key routes. The department said heavy traffic would likely occur on December 8 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. It also warned of similar congestion on December 9 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Officials urged citizens to plan their travel to avoid delays.
ITP advised motorists to use alternate routes and avoid unnecessary movement during these peak hours. Officials said Faisal Avenue, Islamabad Expressway, and Srinagar Highway would likely face major pressure. They noted that these roads remain among the busiest corridors in the capital.
Key roads closed for Red Zone entry
The police also closed Express Chowk and the Marriott Gate for Red Zone access. They directed motorists to use Serena Road, NADRA Road, or Margalla Road instead. Officials said the closures aimed to streamline movement near sensitive locations. They added that managing the flow of traffic remained a top priority.
The department outlined several diversions for commuters entering Islamabad from different directions. These diversions aim to reduce congestion on major corridors during peak hours.
Alternate routes for incoming traffic
Commuters traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad may use Rawal Road, 9th Avenue, Faqueer Aipee Road, or Srinagar Highway. ITP encouraged motorists to rely on these routes to avoid long delays.
Travelers heading from Islamabad to Rawalpindi may follow Zero Point or take Srinagar Highway toward 9th Avenue. Officials said these choices offer smoother movement during heavy traffic periods.
Those arriving from Murree or Bhara Kahu may divert to Korang Road. They may also use the Bani Gala route, Park Road, or Lehtrar Road. These alternate routes aim to distribute the traffic load more evenly.
ITP deploys officers at major points
ITP confirmed that officers would remain deployed at major points across the city. They said the personnel would assist drivers and manage the flow of vehicles. The police also advised commuters to stay updated through ITP Radio 92.4 FM. They encouraged citizens to follow Islamabad Police’s official social media platforms for real-time alerts.
Officials stressed the importance of staying informed as traffic volumes rise during these hours. They assured residents that teams would remain active to minimise inconvenience.
