Pakistan’s Ministry of IT and Telecommunication is partnering with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to enroll more taxpayers, particularly non-filers of income tax returns. The objective is to modernize and enhance the efficiency of the tax system to stimulate the country’s economy.
During a recent meeting, Pakistan’s Caretaker Finance Minister, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, emphasized the necessity of leveraging technology to strengthen tax collection.

The government aims to increase tax revenue, with a significant focus on utilizing technology.
The FBR chairman discussed their efforts to automate and enhance the tax collection system, a critical step toward augmenting government revenue.
Minister Akhtar stressed the urgency of closing the tax gap and ensuring that all eligible individuals pay their taxes.
The government is also prioritizing the modernization of financial systems to meet international standards, thereby improving transparency and accountability.
Authorities are actively analyzing data from various sources, including provinces and state-owned entities, to identify tax evaders, with the goal of expanding the taxpayer base.
Both the FBR and the Ministry of IT are dedicated to collaborating on digitizing national data and broadening the tax base. The meeting concluded with a consensus among attendees to invest the necessary effort in enhancing fiscal governance and increasing revenue collection.
Important figures present at the meeting included Caretaker Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman FBR Malik Amjed Zubair Tiwana, members of the Board, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the IT Division, and the Revenue Division.
