ISLAMABAD: Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after sustaining injuries in a fall at his residence, the militaryโs media wing said on Thursday.
In an official health update, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the former army chief is currently undergoing medical treatment at CMH. However, the statement did not disclose the nature of his injuries or provide further medical details about his condition.
Meanwhile, the development prompted widespread attention, as Bajwa remained one of Pakistanโs most prominent military figures in recent years. He served as the Chief of Army Staff from 2016 to 2022 and played a central role during several major national security and political periods.
Former army chief remains under medical observation
Sources familiar with the matter said doctors admitted Bajwa for treatment and observation following the incident. Moreover, hospital staff reportedly ensured that medical care began immediately upon his arrival at the facility.
Additionally, officials have not issued any timeline for his discharge. However, the ISPRโs confirmation indicates that Bajwa remains under active medical supervision. In such cases, doctors typically monitor patients closely to prevent complications and ensure stable recovery.
Furthermore, security and administrative protocols at CMH remain in place, as the hospital frequently handles the treatment of senior military officers and retired officials.
The ISPR has not announced whether Bajwa will release a personal statement. Nevertheless, the health update has eased speculation by confirming that he is receiving professional medical care.
As more information becomes available, authorities may issue another update regarding his health status and progress. For now, officials have asked the public to rely on official information and avoid spreading unverified claims on social media.
