ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army’s spokesman has said that the Makkah Defence Alliance aimed at regional stability.
The Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said the Makkah Defence Alliance promotes peace and regional stability.
Speaking to Al-Arabiya English, he said no country had raised concerns about the agreement, which is based on collective deterrence.
The military spokesperson stressed that the pact contains no offensive, interference or aggressive elements and remains purely defensive in nature.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye share strong ties with China, he said, adding that the agreement would not affect Pakistan’s relations with Iran.
Defence commitments remain undisclosed
When asked how Pakistan would respond if one of the agreement’s partners faced an attack, Lt Gen Chaudhry said operational details remained undisclosed.
He explained that the three countries would collectively decide their response if any member came under attack.
The DG said the agreement does not establish a publicly defined operational mechanism for responding to possible attacks against any partner.
He also rejected the impression that Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye had developed recently.
According to him, Pakistan’s ties with both countries are historic, deeply rooted and well understood by China and the international community.
He said the agreement formalises existing relationships between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye while strengthening their defence cooperation.
Meanwhile, the three countries have continued efforts to strengthen strategic coordination amid growing regional security concerns.
The DG maintained that the agreement focuses on collective deterrence, defence and stability rather than offensive military objectives.
He added that the pact would not interfere with Pakistan’s existing diplomatic relationships with other regional countries.
