Pakistan’s military leadership has issued strong warnings about a political narrative that, according to officials, now threatens national stability. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) chief stated that this narrative is harming national cohesion and creating space for external interference. His remarks highlighted rising concerns over rhetoric emerging from a jailed political figure.
Military Opens New Chapter with Defence Forces Headquarters
The ISPR chief confirmed the inauguration of the Chief of Defence Forces headquarters. He said that this new structure reflects evolving defence needs. Moreover, he explained that the institution aims to operate with clarity during a period of internal challenges.
Officials Warn Against Anti-State Messaging
During the briefing, the ISPR chief emphasised that nothing outweighs the state’s interests. He said that a particular political leader continues to push anti-military and anti-state ideas. Although he avoided mentioning names directly, he made clear that the remarks targeted the jailed founder of a major political party.
The official stated that the individual’s “ego and desires” have grown to a point where he sees himself as irreplaceable. This outlook, he said, fuels a “delusional mindset” that now poses risks to national order.
Narrative Described as a Threat to National Stability
According to the ISPR chief, the political narrative in question has “evolved into a national security threat.” He stressed that attacks on the military or its leadership create opportunities for hostile forces. He warned that such rhetoric effectively opens the door for “another army,” a situation that would damage institutional integrity.
Furthermore, he criticised attempts to influence public opinion against the armed forces. He noted that messages sent from prison meetings attempt to turn people against the military and the state.
Concerns Over Violations of Constitutional Limits
The spokesperson questioned the legality of political meetings with a convicted person. He said that such interactions allow anti-state ideas to spread. Additionally, he recalled earlier attempts by the same figure to encourage overseas Pakistanis to block remittances, which could have caused severe economic damage.
He added that the institution respects political leadership. However, he urged political figures not to drag the army into their disputes.
Warnings Against Incitement
The ISPR chief highlighted that freedom of expression carries restrictions under constitutional law. He said that these rights do not allow anyone to undermine national security. He pointed out that a recent social media post urged supporters to target military leadership involved in a major counterterrorism operation.
He warned that the individual is “working alongside external elements,” which deepens the threat. Anyone attacking the armed forces for political motives, he said, should expect a swift response.
Reaffirming the Military’s Neutral Role
The military leadership reiterated that the armed forces hold no political ideology. They serve the state alone, not any political group. The spokesperson stressed that the institution will not permit efforts to divide the army and the people.
He concluded by saying that repeated attempts to spread hostility toward the military confirm that this political narrative has now become a direct threat to national security.
