Family Cites Prolonged Financial Stress
A 38-year-old woman died in Islamabad after reportedly suffering severe emotional distress linked to losses in online trading, police said on Friday.
The woman was identified as Marium Malik, a resident of Jinnah Gardens. She was a mother of three and had been married for around 10 years. Police said her family informed investigators that she had been under prolonged stress due to financial losses connected to online investment and trading activity.
According to the family, Marium had lost her savings through online trading. They told police that the financial pressure had affected her mental health in recent months. Her husband works as a property dealer, while she was a homemaker.
The incident has raised concerns about the growing risks linked to unregulated online trading platforms, financial pressure, and mental health challenges. Many people are drawn to online investment schemes with hopes of quick returns, but major losses can create serious emotional and financial consequences.
Police Review CCTV Footage
Investigators said Marium left her home without carrying her mobile phone, identification documents, or personal belongings. Police said she reached a commercial building alone through a motorcycle ride-hailing service.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators showed her arriving on an upper floor of the building at around 1:04 pm. Police said she was seen walking around the area before the fatal incident took place.
Rescue teams and police personnel reached the scene shortly afterwards. She was found dead at the location. Her body was later shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for a post-mortem examination.
Police said no personal items were recovered from the scene. Family members later confirmed that she had left home without taking anything with her.
Online Trading Losses Under Scrutiny
The womanโs husband, father, and brothers later arrived to receive the body. Police said the investigation is continuing and statements from family members are being recorded.
Authorities are also reviewing the circumstances that led to the incident. The case has highlighted the need for greater awareness about financial risks, online trading platforms, and emotional support for people facing debt or investment losses.
Mental health experts often warn that sudden financial loss can create extreme stress, especially when people feel isolated or unable to discuss their problems. Families are urged to watch for signs of distress and seek help early.
The incident is a tragic reminder that financial pressure can have serious human consequences. It also underlines the importance of responsible investing, strict regulation of online platforms, and accessible mental health support for vulnerable individuals.
