The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have launched a special campaign to help government employees obtain valid driving licences. The campaign, which started on September 16, 2025, will continue until September 26, 2025, offering facilities at traffic police offices and through mobile licensing vans.
Purpose of the Campaign
According to the traffic police, the initiative aims to encourage compliance with traffic laws by ensuring that government employees lead by example. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (R) Hamza Humayun stressed that a large number of government employees currently do not hold valid driving licences. He added that accountability begins with government servants themselves, making it essential that they regularize their documentation.
Strict Action After Deadline
Authorities have made it clear that after September 26, 2025, strict action will be taken against unlicensed drivers. The CTO emphasized that enforcement will be applied without any discrimination. Measures will include heavy fines, impounding of vehicles, and even departmental action against government employees who fail to comply.
Mobile Vans and Facilitation Centers
To make the process more convenient, traffic police have deployed mobile licensing vans in addition to providing services at traffic police offices. These facilities are expected to handle a high volume of applicants during the campaign period, ensuring employees face no difficulties in obtaining their licences.
Broader Enforcement of Traffic Laws
This initiative follows recent efforts across the country to strengthen road safety and traffic law enforcement. Earlier in September, Punjab traffic police reported issuing over 23,000 driving licences in a single day. Alongside this, more than 37,000 traffic challans were issued within 24 hours, generating Rs21 million in fines.
In the same operation, 343 smoke-emitting vehicles were fined, with 29 vehicles impounded due to excessive emissions. These measures highlight the broader push to improve traffic management, road safety, and environmental protection.
Implications for Road Safety
The ITP campaign not only helps government employees but also sets an example for the wider public. By ensuring that state officials adhere to the law, authorities hope to foster a culture of compliance and responsibility on the roads.
With the deadline approaching, government employees are urged to take advantage of the facilitation services offered by Islamabad Traffic Police. After September 26, violators will face strict penalties, marking a decisive step toward safer and more accountable road usage in the capital.
