Pakistan is set to host its first international women’s tennis tournament in Islamabad this October.
The Junaid Family Foundation (JFF) has announced sponsorship for the World Tennis Women’s 15,000 Futures Tennis Tournament. The event will run from October 12 to 17.
World Tennis has sanctioned the tournament. The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) will organise it in partnership with the international tennis body.
Around 40 international players are expected to travel to Islamabad. They will compete alongside emerging Pakistani female tennis players.
International Players to Compete in Islamabad
The tournament will give Pakistani players a chance to compete against international athletes on home soil.
It will also provide greater exposure to competitive women’s tennis in Pakistan. Organisers expect the event to attract attention from the international tennis community.
Another Futures tournament will follow the October event. The Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania competition will also bring further attention to women’s tennis in Pakistan.
Junaid Family Foundation Supports Women’s Sports
JFF said its sponsorship reflects its wider focus on women’s empowerment, health and wellbeing.
The foundation has previously supported healthcare and development projects in Pakistan. Its work includes maternal and child nutrition programmes.
JFF Chairman Ansir Junaid said the tournament expands the foundation’s work into women’s sports.
He said the event will support international athletes while highlighting the health and wellbeing of women and girls in Pakistan.
Tournament to Create New Opportunities
The Junaid Family Foundation operates in Cleveland, Ohio, and Pakistan. Its programmes focus on healthcare, education, development, equity and civic engagement.
The foundation said women and children remain important parts of its development work.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad tournament will create a new platform for Pakistani female tennis players. It will also bring international women’s tennis to Pakistan for the first time under the announced World Tennis event.
