Interior minister orders faster emergency services rollout and pushes sustainable revenue model
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday announced the construction of two new underpasses in Islamabad as part of efforts to improve the capital’s traffic flow and urban infrastructure.
Chairing a special meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters, Naqvi reviewed the progress of key development projects and directed officials to accelerate work on several public initiatives. He said the new underpasses would be built at Kashmir Chowk and Faisal Masjid, with construction scheduled to begin next month.
During the meeting, the interior minister also expressed dissatisfaction over the continued absence of Emergency 1122 services in the federal capital. Consequently, he instructed officials to immediately begin work on establishing a capital emergency response system and ensure that all required resources were made available without delay.
Focus on infrastructure and emergency services
Naqvi further directed authorities to establish new emergency service centres and emphasized that work on the Expressway Service Road must be completed within the stipulated timeframe. Officials also presented a comprehensive briefing outlining the status of ongoing development schemes across Islamabad.
Additionally, participants reviewed proposals aimed at strengthening the Capital Development Authority’s financial position. The minister instructed officials to formulate a sustainable revenue model that would help the civic body achieve long-term financial self-reliance while supporting future development projects.
Commercial plot auction continues
Meanwhile, the Capital Development Authority continued its three-day auction of commercial plots at the Jinnah Convention Centre. On the opening day, authorities sold commercial plots worth Rs13.8067 billion.
The auction will continue until August 6 as officials seek to boost investment and generate additional revenue for development projects. According to the chairman of the auction committee, the initiative aligns with the vision of the prime minister and the federal interior minister to improve the ease of doing business and facilitate the business community through a transparent public auction process.
The CDA expects the auction to strengthen its financial resources while supporting infrastructure expansion and urban development across Islamabad in the coming months.
