Authorities in Islamabad have prepared additional security measures ahead of planned political protests and marches toward the federal capital.
According to sources, the strategy includes digging trenches on major highways and installing barriers on routes connecting Islamabad with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Trenches Planned on Key Routes
Officials surveyed routes leading to Islamabad from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before preparing the security plan.
Sources said trenches are planned near Chowrangi No. 26 and Margalla-Taxila.
Barriers will also be placed along routes leading toward the capital.
The measures are intended to restrict the movement of protesters approaching Islamabad.
The government has separately decided to seal routes leading to the capital’s Red Zone, with containers and additional police personnel being deployed.
Interior Ministry Sets Up Control Room
A dedicated control room has been established at the Interior Ministry in Islamabad.
The facility will monitor the security situation around the clock.
Officials will conduct live monitoring of motorways, highways, commercial areas and internal routes across the capital.
The control room has access to high-tech cameras installed on motorways and major highways through the Islamabad Safe City system.
It is also equipped with a hotline and wireless communication system.
Reports to Track Incidents
Sources said officials will compile reports on any incidents or disruptions reported in the federal capital.
The preparations come amid planned political demonstrations, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s announced September 27 protest and Jamaat-e-Islami’s ongoing protest activity.
The Islamabad High Court has also directed authorities to protect citizens’ freedom of movement and prevent political activities from obstructing roads, businesses, hospitals and educational institutions.
