ISLAMABAD, October 10: The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration and Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have temporarily closed Zero Point and Faizabad Interchange due to security concerns and expected public gatherings in the twin cities. Containers and barricades have been placed to restrict vehicular movement, resulting in significant traffic congestion across key arteries.
In a statement, the ITP confirmed that all heavy traffic has been barred from entering Islamabad until further notice. The closures have impacted the Srinagar (Kashmir) Highway, Islamabad Expressway, and connecting service roads, prompting the issuance of a comprehensive traffic diversion plan to ensure public convenience and maintain mobility.
According to the advisory, commuters coming from I-8 are advised to use Zero Point → Srinagar Highway → Club Road → Rawal Dam Chowk → Park Road as an alternate route.
Traffic from Zero Point toward the Expressway should take Srinagar Highway → Rawal Dam Chowk → Park Road → Lehtrar Road → Khanna Pul → Expressway.
For travelers heading from Rawal Dam, Murree, or central Islamabad toward Rawalpindi, the recommended route is Rawal Dam Chowk → Park Road → Captain Naeem Tufail Shaheed Chowk → Lehtrar → Khanna → Expressway.
Vehicles coming via IJP Road or 9th Avenue may use Gohar Shaheed Chowk (via Faqir Aipee Road) or I-10 Service Road → 9th Avenue → Srinagar Highway for access to central Islamabad.
Authorities have urged citizens to plan their travel accordingly, avoid unnecessary movement around closed areas, and stay updated through ITP Radio FM 92.4 and official social media accounts.
The administration added that the closures are temporary and precautionary, aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of commuters and residents. Normal traffic flow will be restored as soon as the situation stabilizes.
Rawalpindi Police Tighten Security as TLP Plans March Toward Islamabad
Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) planned march toward Islamabad on October 10. The move aims to prevent any law and order disturbance or public inconvenience during the protest.
City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani chaired a high-level meeting with senior officers to review the situation and outline strategies to ensure public safety. He emphasized that the police will not tolerate violence, property damage, or disruptions to normal life under the guise of protest.
Strict Warning Against Law Violations
The CPO issued a clear warning, stating that no road blockades, attacks on public property, or interference with traffic would be allowed. He further added that those violating the law will face strict action.
“Any act that disrupts citizens’ daily lives or targets law enforcement agencies will be dealt with firmly,” said Hamdani. He reiterated that the Rawalpindi police remain fully prepared to respond to any unlawful activities.
