The post-mortem examination of Islamabad police officer Adeel Akbar, who allegedly died by suicide earlier this week, has been completed.
According to official sources, the examination was carried out by a Medical Legal Officer (MLO) at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on Thursday.
Following the post-mortem, the officer’s body was handed over to his family for burial. Sources confirmed that the initial medical report will be submitted to the Islamabad Police as part of the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings from the post-mortem revealed that SP Adeel Akbar sustained a single gunshot wound, with the bullet entering from the front of the head and exiting from the back of the skull. The gunshot caused severe brain injury, which was determined to be the cause of death.
Police officials stated that forensic samples, including the bullet and ballistic evidence, have been collected for further examination. Investigators are also reviewing data from the officer’s mobile phone to determine the sequence of events leading up to the incident.
SP Adeel Akbar, who was serving as Superintendent of Police in Islamabad’s Industrial Area, allegedly shot himself near the Serena checkpoint while on duty. He was rushed to PIMS Hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has prompted widespread concern within the Islamabad Police, with senior officers calling for increased psychological support and counseling for law enforcement personnel working under extreme pressure.
Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi had personally visited PIMS following the incident to oversee post-mortem proceedings and receive updates from medical staff.
