ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police on Monday arrested a man after he illegally entered a girls’ hostel at Quaid-e-Azam University by scaling a boundary wall, triggering concern over campus security and student safety. The incident occurred late at night and prompted swift action by hostel authorities and law enforcement.
According to police, the suspect climbed into Girls’ Hostel Number 5 and was later found inside the hostel’s washrooms at around 2 am. Female students noticed his presence and raised an alarm, which led to intervention by the lady warden and on-duty security staff. They detained the man and handed him over to the police.
Investigation launched after campus breach
Police registered a first information report at the Secretariat Police Station and identified the suspect as Faizan Satti, son of Raja Khalid Mahmood. Investigators have launched further inquiries to determine his motives and whether he acted alone.
A video circulating from the scene shows people questioning the suspect about his identity and how he entered the hostel. In response, the man stated that he climbed the wall. When asked about his background, he mentioned Rawal Dam, according to the footage. Police said they are verifying all statements and evidence as part of the investigation.
The incident has raised questions about security arrangements at public sector universities, particularly at women’s hostels, where students and parents expect strict access control and round-the-clock vigilance.
Similar cases heighten concerns over harassment
The Quaid-e-Azam University incident follows another alleged harassment case reported last week in Rawalpindi. Cantt Police arrested a man accused of recording indecent videos of women inside the washroom of Cantonment General Hospital.
Police said hospital staff responded after hearing a woman scream and found the suspect inside the washroom. A case was registered on the complaint of the hospital’s security supervisor, and investigators recovered indecent videos from the suspect’s mobile phone.
Station House Officer Noor-ul-Ain said police would charge the accused on the basis of solid evidence. Meanwhile, SP Potohar Talha Wali warned that harassment or violence against women and children would not be tolerated and vowed strict legal action in all such cases.
