Pakistan Airports Authority says project will enhance passenger connectivity and digital services
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has launched an Indoor 5G Connectivity Project at Islamabad International Airport, making it the first airport in the country to introduce a comprehensive indoor fifth-generation mobile network designed to improve passenger connectivity and digital services.
The project was officially inaugurated during a ceremony held at Islamabad International Airport, where senior officials described the initiative as a significant milestone in the modernization of Pakistanโs aviation infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Islamabad International Airport Chief Executive Officer Syed Aftab Shah Gillani said the project would provide high-speed, uninterrupted mobile connectivity throughout the terminal building once it becomes fully operational. He noted that the upgraded network would significantly improve the digital experience for passengers while supporting more efficient airport operations.
Project aims to improve airport operations
Gillani said the enhanced connectivity would benefit airlines, airport operators and other stakeholders by enabling faster communication, improved digital services and more reliable network performance within the terminal.
Furthermore, he stated that the initiative would create new opportunities for non-aeronautical revenue generation for the Pakistan Airports Authority, contributing to the long-term commercial sustainability of the airport.
According to PAA officials, the project aligns with the authorityโs broader strategy to modernize airport infrastructure, improve passenger convenience and strengthen Pakistanโs digital transformation agenda.
Officials see model for future airports
The authority said the Indoor 5G Connectivity Project demonstrates its commitment to adopting advanced technologies that enhance operational efficiency and customer experience across the aviation sector.
Officials expressed confidence that the successful implementation of the initiative at Islamabad International Airport would serve as a model for similar technology upgrades at airports throughout Pakistan.
The project is expected to support growing passenger demand for seamless digital connectivity while enabling the introduction of additional smart airport services in the future. Authorities believe the initiative will further strengthen Islamabad International Airportโs position as one of the countryโs leading aviation hubs by offering modern communication infrastructure that meets international standards.
