Islamabad authorities have announced a temporary ban on the entry of heavy vehicles into the federal capital to manage congestion during road development and New Year traffic pressure. The restriction will remain in effect from December 27 to December 31 and aims to ensure smoother movement for daily commuters and visitors.
According to traffic officials, heavy vehicles will not be permitted to enter Islamabad from December 27 to December 30 between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm each day. On December 31, the restriction period will extend from 3:00 pm until midnight. This step has been introduced as traffic volume is expected to rise sharply ahead of New Year celebrations.
The decision follows ongoing road development work across multiple routes in the capital. Due to construction activity, several arteries already experience partial slowdowns. Therefore, authorities moved proactively to prevent additional pressure from large commercial vehicles during peak hours.
Traffic officials stated that dedicated personnel will remain deployed on major roads throughout the restriction period. Their presence will help regulate traffic flow and guide motorists toward alternative routes when necessary. As a result, officials expect reduced congestion during evening hours, which traditionally see the highest traffic density.
Citizens have been urged to plan their travel schedules carefully during these days. Drivers entering or exiting the city during restricted hours may face delays if they fail to follow updated traffic advisories. Hence, cooperation with traffic staff remains essential for maintaining order and safety.
Moreover, officials emphasized that the restriction applies only to heavy vehicles. Regular private cars, motorcycles, and public transport will continue operating normally. However, drivers should remain cautious due to construction zones and temporary diversions across several areas.
Authorities also advised commercial transport operators to reschedule deliveries outside restricted hours. This adjustment will help avoid penalties and unnecessary inconvenience. Meanwhile, enforcement teams will monitor entry points closely to ensure compliance.
For guidance or emergency support, citizens can contact traffic helplines during the restriction period. Officials reassured the public that support staff will remain available to assist commuters and manage unexpected traffic situations.
The temporary ban reflects routine traffic management measures adopted during high-movement periods in Islamabad. With coordinated enforcement and public cooperation, authorities expect smoother mobility as the city approaches the New Year.
