ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad sentenced DIG Jawad Tariq to one month in jail and fined him Rs100,000 for failing to submit a challan in a PTI protest case.
Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra announced the verdict on Tuesday. He showed strong displeasure over the police officerโs repeated failure to comply with court notices.
The court noted that Jawad Tariq ignored several directives to submit the challan on time. The case involves PTI leaders and relates to a protest registered at Margalla Police Station.
The judge stated that the responsibility to submit the challan rested with the DIG. The court took action after continued delays and lack of response from the police official.
Jawad Tariq assumed charge as Deputy Inspector General of Islamabad on January 30. He replaced Ali Raza, who later moved to the position of DIG Security and Headquarters.
The ruling highlights the courtโs strict stance on non-compliance by senior police officers and stresses the importance of timely legal procedures.
