Final Day for Vehicle Owners to Install M-Tags
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon has reminded vehicle owners that the grace period for M-Tag installation ends on January 15. No further extension will be granted, he emphasized.
Memon stated that enforcement will begin immediately after the deadline expires. From January 16 onwards, vehicles entering or moving within Islamabad without a valid M-Tag will face action under relevant rules. The move aims to regulate vehicle movement and enhance monitoring at entry and exit points across the capital.
Authorities are urging residents to complete the process before the deadline to avoid inconvenience. The deputy commissioner said the procedure is simple, and minimal documents are required for registration. Additional staff have been deployed at M-Tag centers to handle the expected rush.
M-Tag Campaign Progress and Statistics
The M-Tag registration campaign has been ongoing across the city. So far, over 150,000 vehicles have been issued M-Tags through 16 designated centers in Islamabad. In the last 24 hours alone, 2,965 vehicles received their M-Tags, showing a steady pace of registrations.
Memon highlighted the importance of timely registration. Residents were advised not to wait until the final hours, as higher traffic at centers could lead to delays. Completing the registration on time will ensure smooth travel within the city once enforcement starts.
Officials explained that M-Tags are part of a broader effort to manage traffic flow and maintain accurate records of vehicles entering Islamabad. The system will help authorities monitor movement and improve security across the federal capital.
Enforcement Measures and System Readiness
To support enforcement, the administration has installed M-Tag readers at 12 entry points and checkpoints across Islamabad. These readers will automatically identify vehicles without valid M-Tags. Memon confirmed that the system is fully operational and ready for immediate use after the deadline.
Vehicles found without M-Tags will be stopped at checkpoints. Authorities will take necessary steps under the law to ensure compliance. The administration has reiterated that the campaign is mandatory, and cooperation from citizens is crucial to prevent disruption in daily travel.
The DC urged all vehicle owners to visit the nearest M-Tag center before January 15 to get their vehicles tagged. The authorities stressed that this is part of Islamabadโs wider plan to streamline vehicle management, improve traffic monitoring, and ensure security across the capital.
With just one day remaining, officials emphasized that action against non-compliant vehicles will begin without delay, marking the start of strict enforcement.
