Charges Framed Over Alleged Anti-State Tweets
A District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has formally indicted lawyers Imaan Mazari and Abdul Hadi Ali Chattha in a case related to controversial tweets allegedly targeting national security institutions.
The indictment was announced on Tuesday by Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka. The case has drawn widespread attention due to its sensitive nature involving state institutions.
The judge framed charges during the hearing, although both accused were absent at the time. Their assistant counsel informed the court that the couple had earlier appeared but had left for another hearing in Rawalpindi.
Court Questions Absence, Summons Prosecution Witnesses
Judge Majuka asked under whose authority the accused had exited the court premises. Despite their absence, the court proceeded with reading out the charges.
The judge also summoned prosecution witnesses to appear the same day at 1:30 PM to begin recording testimonies.
The assistant counsel representing Mazari and Chattha requested a copy of the indictment order. The court responded that a formal application must be submitted as per legal procedures to obtain the order.
The court then adjourned the hearing until 1:30 PM, setting the stage for witness statements to begin later in the day.
This development adds another chapter to the ongoing legal challenges faced by Imaan Mazari, a prominent human rights lawyer, and Abdul Hadi Ali Chattha, also a practicing advocate.
