Authorities have confirmed that Islamabad International Airport will remain operational throughout the week, contrary to false reports suggesting a complete eight-day closure. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) stated that only short-term suspensions of flight operations will take place to accommodate preparations for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
Temporary Suspension Details
The flight restrictions are part of security and logistical measures for aerial displays planned as part of the 14 August 2025 events. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued specifying that from August 11 to August 13, all arrivals and departures will be paused daily between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. These two-hour intervals will allow safe conduct of rehearsals involving aircraft maneuvers over the capital.
Outside these designated windows, normal airport operation, including both domestic and international flights, will proceed without interruption.
Guidance for Airlines and Passengers
Airlines have been instructed not to schedule flights within the restricted time slots to avoid disruptions. Passengers are advised to check their flight itineraries and remain in contact with their carriers for any rescheduling updates. Authorities recommend arriving at the airport as per usual, unless advised otherwise by the airline, since the majority of flights will remain unaffected.
Addressing Misinformation
This clarification comes in response to misleading claims that Islamabad Airport would close entirely for over a week. The CAA emphasized that these statements are baseless and have no connection to official announcements. The airport will continue functioning as a key hub, with only the planned short pauses in operations.
Purpose of the Suspension
The short-term suspension of flights aligns with the requirements for Independence Day air rehearsals, ensuring safety for pilots, event participants, and the general public. Such measures are common before national celebrations that feature military fly-pasts, aerobatic performances, or special aerial demonstrations.
Broader Independence Day Preparations
These temporary adjustments are part of the larger national preparations leading up to Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. The celebrations will include cultural events, parades, and special air force displays, all coordinated with the aim of showcasing national pride while maintaining strict safety standards.
By restricting flights during key rehearsal times, event organizers and aviation authorities can ensure precision, minimize risk, and maintain the overall integrity of the program.
