Pakistanโs Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departed for China on Thursday to attend a global Artificial Intelligence cooperation summit. The visit reflects Islamabadโs efforts to strengthen international partnerships in emerging technologies.
Dar will represent Pakistan at the signing ceremony of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization on July 16. Pakistan is joining the organisation as a founding member.
He will also attend the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference on July 17. The conference will bring together global leaders, policymakers, and technology experts.
Pakistan to Promote AI Cooperation
According to the Foreign Office, Dar will present Pakistanโs vision for stronger international AI cooperation. He will also highlight the priorities and development needs of countries in the Global South.
Additionally, the foreign minister will hold bilateral meetings with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other counterparts. The discussions will focus on expanding collaboration in AI development and governance.
Officials said the meetings would also address AI standards, resource sharing, and responsible technology use. Furthermore, participants will discuss narrowing the global AI divide through equitable access.
The agenda also includes promoting sustainable development by ensuring wider access to artificial intelligence technologies. Pakistan aims to strengthen its role in shaping global AI cooperation.
Pakistan Advances National AI Strategy
Pakistan approved its National Artificial Intelligence Policy last year to accelerate digital transformation. The framework focuses on innovation, secure AI systems, public awareness, and international collaboration.
The policy includes a Rs 278 billion investment plan extending through 2030. It also features the nationwide โAI Seekho 2026โ programme to train one million people.
Moreover, the government plans to expand AI infrastructure and introduce a national framework for ethical data use. Last October, Pakistan also launched its sovereign AI cloud and a dedicated startup fund.
Officials believe these initiatives will support innovation across healthcare, education, agriculture, and other key sectors while boosting long-term economic growth.
