Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo is reportedly developing a new wide-screen smartphone for 2027. The upcoming device could introduce a different display design while competing with innovative models from Xiaomi and Huawei.
According to technology insider Digital Chat Station, the mysterious smartphone may feature a compact display measuring less than 6.5 inches. However, Vivo has not officially confirmed the project or its expected specifications.
Unlike conventional smartphones, the rumored device could feature a wider screen with a shorter, broader shape. The design may offer a more comfortable experience when watching videos, gaming or using multiple applications.
The smartphone is expected to retain a traditional non-folding design rather than adopting expensive folding technology.
Huawei has already introduced its Pura X View, featuring a 6.39-inch OLED display with an unusual 16:9.5 aspect ratio. Meanwhile, Xiaomi, Honor and Oppo are reportedly exploring similar wide-screen smartphones for 2027.
Speculation also suggests that Vivo could revive its X Note series with the upcoming device. The original Vivo X Note launched in 2022 with a 7-inch LTPO AMOLED display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.
However, the rumored smartphone would be noticeably smaller than its predecessor. The name Vivo X Note 2 remains unconfirmed.
Details about the processor, camera system, battery capacity, charging technology and pricing have not yet emerged.
Vivo has also not confirmed whether the device will join its existing flagship lineup or launch as a separate series.
The biggest question is whether wider displays could become the next major smartphone trend in 2027.
