The United States has announced a new military task force aimed at disrupting Iran’s weapons supply routes and restricting the movement of sensitive materials. The decision marks another expansion of Washington’s pressure campaign against Tehran.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on November 7, 2026, that Admiral Brad Cooper had ordered the creation of Task Force Iron Gate. The unit will target supply networks operating across Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea.
What Is Task Force Iron Gate?
The newly established unit will consist of approximately 20 civilian and military personnel based in Tampa, Florida.
It will coordinate with other US government agencies to identify and disrupt the movement of advanced weapons, dual-use technologies and sanctioned materials.
The operation will also target financial networks that Washington alleges provide illegal revenue to Iran.
Why Is Washington Expanding Its Iran Blockade?
The announcement follows months of American naval restrictions targeting Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
According to CENTCOM, the blockade has prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion worth of crude oil. The figure remains a US military claim and has not been independently verified.
Admiral Cooper said the new initiative would further restrict Tehran’s ability to rebuild weapons factories and replenish military supplies.
Could Pakistan’s Border Be Affected?
Iran shares land borders with several countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
However, US officials have not announced any new military deployment along these borders or confirmed an agreement involving Pakistan.
The task force will initially operate as a coordination and monitoring unit.
Meanwhile, humanitarian shipments will remain exempt from the existing maritime restrictions.
The latest development raises concerns about further regional tensions as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent another escalation.
