Ireland started their three-match T20I series against Pakistan with a strong statement, clinching an 11-run victory in the opening encounter held at Clontarf Cricket Club, Dublin. The win was powered by Orla Prendergast’s impressive all-round performance, which saw her contribute both with bat and ball.
After being asked to bat first, Ireland posted a total of 142 runs in 19.4 overs. The innings had a rocky start, with skipper Gaby Lewis dismissed early for just one run. However, a steadying second-wicket partnership between Amy Hunter and Orla Prendergast helped the hosts regain momentum. The pair added 45 runs before Hunter was removed for a well-made 37 off 30 balls, featuring five boundaries.
Prendergast continued to build on the foundation, scoring 29 from 26 balls, including three fours, before falling in the 13th over. Leah Paul then chipped in with a quickfire 29 off just 18 deliveries, also hitting four boundaries, but her dismissal triggered a collapse. Ireland lost their final wickets rapidly and were eventually bowled out with two balls remaining in the innings.
For Pakistan, captain Fatima Sana led from the front with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 26 runs in her four-over spell. Supporting contributions came from Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu, Rameen Shamim, and Diana Baig, each claiming a wicket.
In reply, Pakistan struggled to find stability in their chase of 143. Despite a few promising innings from the middle order, the team was unable to keep pace with the required run rate and finished on 131 for 9 after 20 overs.
Natalia Pervaiz stood out with a brisk 39 off 23 balls, while Rameen Shamim added 27 from 20 deliveries. However, the top order faltered, and the batting lineup lacked cohesion. Sidra Amin (15), Aliya Riaz, and Fatima Sana (14 each) were the only others to reach double figures as Irelandโs bowlers maintained tight control throughout the innings.
Orla Prendergast once again made an impact, taking 3 wickets for 28 runs, while Jane Maguire added two wickets. Ava Canning, Cara Murray, and Lara McBride also contributed with a wicket apiece.
This win marks Ireland’s eighth consecutive victory in T20 Internationals, highlighting their growing dominance in the format. It also gives them a 1-0 lead in the ongoing series, putting pressure on Pakistan to bounce back in the next match.
The second T20I promises to be a crucial contest, as Pakistan looks to regroup and level the series, while Ireland aims to build on their momentum and potentially secure the series win early.
