Mohsen Rezaei praises Pakistan’s government, military and people while highlighting expanding cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad
TEHRAN: Iran’s newly appointed Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei met Pakistan’s Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, emphasizing what he described as deep-rooted strategic and religious ties between the neighbouring countries.
During the meeting, Rezaei said Iranian leaders had consistently viewed Pakistan as a strategic backstop for Iran since the Islamic Revolution. Likewise, he said Iran regarded itself as a strategic backstop for Pakistan.
Rezaei traced that approach from the era of Imam Khomeini through subsequent Iranian leadership, arguing that Tehran’s relationship with Islamabad has remained an important element of its regional outlook.
Rezaei Praises Pakistan’s Regional Role
Furthermore, Rezaei described Pakistan’s government, armed forces and people as among the Islamic world’s greatest assets.
He welcomed Pakistan’s growing involvement in regional developments and particularly praised initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
According to Rezaei, Pakistan’s increasing participation in regional diplomacy provides opportunities for closer coordination between Islamabad and Tehran at a time when the wider region faces significant political and security challenges.
Meanwhile, Naqvi’s visit comes amid intensified diplomatic engagement involving Pakistan and Iran on regional security and efforts to reduce tensions.
Tehran Highlights Deep-Rooted Bilateral Ties
Rezaei said relations between Iran and Pakistan extend beyond immediate political interests, describing mutual affection between their people as genuine and deeply rooted in faith.
Moreover, he argued that strong relationships among political leaders, governments and military commanders provide both countries with significant strategic capital.
“The relationships and mutual affection among the leaders, governments, and military commanders of Iran and Pakistan represent a great asset,” Rezaei said.
He added that both sides could use this foundation to undertake major regional initiatives while advancing the development, progress and prosperity of Iran and Pakistan.
