Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that its forces targeted US military assets during a series of ballistic missile strikes. The reported attacks have increased concerns over rising tensions between Iran and the United States in the Middle East.
According to the IRGC, ballistic missiles targeted US aircraft stationed at Jordan’s Aqaba airport. The group claimed that C-17 transport planes and P-8 aircraft suffered heavy damage during the strikes.
The IRGC also stated that multiple military facilities were affected during the operation. It claimed that 20 hangars housing US forces at the Muwaffaq Salti/Al-Azraq air base were destroyed.
However, independent verification of these claims has not been confirmed.
Drone Incident Reported in Western Iran
Meanwhile, reports from Iranian media outlets stated that an MQ-9 drone was intercepted and shot down in Eslamabad-e Gharb, located in Iran’s western Kermanshah province.
According to reports, the IRGC Aerospace Force used an advanced air defense system connected to Iran’s integrated defense network to target the drone.
The incident highlights the growing role of unmanned aerial systems in modern military operations. Both Iran and the United States have previously used and developed advanced drone technologies for surveillance and defense purposes.
Tensions Rise Over Strait of Hormuz
The IRGC has also claimed that two oil tankers exploded and stopped in the southern Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, the group said the vessels were moving through the strategic waterway under what it described as “US coercion.”
The IRGC warned that the route could remain unsafe while US military activities continue in the region.
“This passage is unsafe for the transport of chemical fertilizer or even a single drop of oil and gas,” the group said.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy routes. A major disruption in the area could affect global oil supplies and international markets.
US Calls for Diplomatic Efforts
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded by accusing Iran of using the Strait of Hormuz as a pressure tool. He urged other countries to take action regarding regional security concerns.
At the same time, Rubio said the United States remains open to a diplomatic solution with Iran.
As both sides continue exchanging accusations, international observers are closely monitoring developments. The situation highlights ongoing challenges in the region, where military actions, energy security, and diplomatic efforts remain closely connected.
