Clerical body urges officials to follow leadership’s guidance amid debate over diplomacy
TEHRAN: Iran’s Assembly of Experts has reaffirmed its full support for Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, calling on government institutions and public officials to closely follow his strategic guidance as the country navigates ongoing regional and diplomatic challenges.
In a statement released on Monday, the influential clerical body described the Supreme Leader’s messages as a source of direction for both the Iranian people and the broader Islamic community. It said state institutions should continue to place his guidance at the center of national policymaking.
The statement came amid continued discussion over Iran’s diplomatic engagement with the United States and reports concerning alleged US violations of previous memorandums of understanding.
Assembly voices opposition to negotiations
The Assembly of Experts expressed skepticism toward renewed diplomacy with Washington, arguing that confidence in the United States would not serve Iran’s national interests.
According to the statement, relying on future agreements with the US would be misguided and inconsistent with Iran’s strategic priorities. It further asserted that protecting the country’s sovereignty and national rights should remain within the framework established by the Supreme Leader.
The statement also emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and resilience in the face of external pressure while urging officials to remain committed to the country’s stated political and security objectives.
Domestic criticism also addressed
The Assembly additionally criticized domestic voices advocating concessions in the name of peace, describing such positions as contrary to Iran’s national interests.
It argued that individuals promoting what it viewed as capitulation should be held accountable under the law and called on relevant authorities to address such actions through legal mechanisms.
The statement reflects the Assembly’s continued support for Iran’s current leadership and its position on foreign policy during a period of heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic developments.
Iranian authorities have repeatedly maintained that decisions on major national security and diplomatic issues will continue to be guided by the country’s established leadership framework, while discussions over future negotiations with international parties remain a subject of domestic and international attention.
