Iran has warned Gulf states that any renewed US attack on its territory would trigger retaliation against regional energy infrastructure, according to multiple sources. The warning followed recent threats by President Donald Trump to target Iran’s energy facilities.
Iran reportedly delivered the message through a series of high-level diplomatic contacts. Consequently, Tehran sought to raise the potential cost of further military action by warning Washington’s regional allies.
According to the sources, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held discussions with officials from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Türkiye. He also reportedly spoke with Pakistan’s army chief.
Iran Urges Gulf Allies To Push For Diplomacy
Sources said Araghchi encouraged Gulf allies to use their influence with President Trump. He urged them to discourage any renewed military strikes against Iran.
According to a senior regional diplomat, Araghchi warned that Iran would respond by targeting US assets and Gulf energy facilities. However, he also stressed that diplomacy remained the best path to avoid wider regional escalation.
One Gulf source described the warning as direct and unequivocal. Meanwhile, another source said the message targeted all Gulf states but mainly passed through Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Saudi Arabia Reportedly Encouraged Return To Talks
Sources claimed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman later spoke with President Trump. He reportedly urged the US leader to delay military action, pursue a ceasefire and return to negotiations.
Iran has improved relations with several Gulf neighbours in recent years. Therefore, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia have all encouraged renewed diplomatic engagement with Tehran.
On August 2, President Trump said he agreed to cancel the planned attack, provided both sides could quickly reach an agreement. Despite that statement, regional tensions remain high as diplomatic efforts continue.
