Iran has pledged to take what it described as “appropriate action” following a reported U.S. strike on the Darkhovin nuclear power plant under construction in Khuzestan province. The incident has further heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi condemned the reported attack and described it as a dangerous assault on Iran’s peaceful nuclear infrastructure. He said the United States would bear full responsibility for the consequences of increased regional instability.
Moreover, Gharibabadi said Iran strongly rejected the reported military action. He added that Tehran would take appropriate measures to defend its national security and protect its interests.
Earlier, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation confirmed that U.S. strikes had targeted the Darkhovin nuclear facility, which remains under construction. However, Iranian authorities did not immediately provide details about the extent of the reported damage.
Meanwhile, the reported attack came during a period of rising military tensions across the region. The United States has carried out strikes inside Iran, while Tehran has responded with attacks on facilities and military bases that it says support U.S. operations in neighboring countries.
