Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has announced Iran’s willingness to join the Makkah Defence Alliance. The agreement currently brings together Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
During an interview with Al Jazeera, Pezeshkian welcomed the alliance as a positive step toward stronger ties among Muslim countries.
However, he acknowledged that Iran had not yet received full details of the agreement.
Iran Calls for Stronger Muslim Unity
Pezeshkian urged Muslim nations to resolve their differences through cooperation instead of conflict.
He said Iran supports efforts that promote peace and improve relations across the Muslim world.
The Iranian president also revealed that he had sent a message to Saudi Arabia through Pakistan’s prime minister.
He suggested that Saudi Arabia could play a central role in bringing Muslim countries closer together.
Pezeshkian Criticizes US and Israel
Meanwhile, Pezeshkian accused the United States and Israel of increasing tensions across the Middle East.
He claimed Washington had repeatedly attacked Iran during diplomatic negotiations.
He also blamed both countries for the ongoing dispute over the Strait of Hormuz.
However, he stressed that dialogue could resolve the issue without further military action.
Iran Offers Support for Yemen Peace Efforts
Pezeshkian also addressed the conflict involving Yemen’s Houthi movement.
He expressed Iran’s willingness to help reduce tensions and support peaceful negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Makkah Defence Alliance aims to strengthen security cooperation among participating countries.
Turkey has also taken steps toward parliamentary approval of the agreement.
Iran’s latest statement signals growing interest in wider regional cooperation.
However, Tehran has not formally joined the alliance, and its possible role remains unclear.
