Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed that diplomatic talks with Saudi Arabia are continuing as Tehran seeks new regional security arrangements without foreign military involvement.
In a statement shared on social media platform X on Tuesday, Araghchi said Iran wanted regional countries to establish a security framework through cooperation and dialogue.
The development follows a high-level meeting last week involving officials from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan with Iranian representatives in Tehran. It marked the first such contact between the four countries since August.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said the diplomatic engagement aimed to establish communication channels and prevent renewed military escalation across the region.
Tensions have increased following intensified fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement. The Houthis have reportedly targeted Saudi oil facilities and airports, disrupting flights and energy exports.
The escalating confrontation has also raised concerns about shipping security around the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Araghchi’s remarks indicate that regional diplomatic efforts remain underway to prevent further conflict and strengthen security cooperation among neighbouring countries.
