Iran has conveyed conditions for ending its war with the United States through Qatari mediation in New York. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Tehran wants an end to the war on all fronts.
He also cited an end to what Iran calls US “acts of aggression.” Other demands include ending the naval blockade and economic warfare.
Iran has also called for the release of its frozen assets, according to Iranian state media.
Hormuz Shipping Remains Below Average
Meanwhile, shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains significantly below recent averages. Three commodity vessels crossed the waterway on Tuesday. That figure was down from four the previous day and below the 10-day average of around 15 vessels.
The data came from ship-tracking services Kpler and LSEG. However, the figures could change because some vessels switch off their tracking systems.
A ballast LNG tanker, Al Mafyar, also reappeared inside the strait after last being seen outside the waterway on September 19.
Before the conflict, Hormuz carried around one-fifth of global oil and gas supplies.
Bab el-Mandeb Traffic Also Falls
Shipping activity has also remained below average through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Twenty-two commodity vessels passed through the waterway on Tuesday. Fourteen were heading towards the Red Sea, while eight moved towards the Gulf of Aden.
The latest figure compares with a 10-day average of around 26 vessels.
The route remains important for oil and other commercial shipments between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Pezeshkian Arrives in New York
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
His office said he is expected to meet several world leaders and other officials during the visit.
Pezeshkian is also scheduled to address the General Assembly on Wednesday.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is accompanying the diplomatic effort. The US previously approved entry for the core Iranian delegation, while some additional members were denied visas.
The visit comes as Washington and Tehran continue indirect diplomatic contacts through mediators.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff said American and Iranian delegations held lengthy discussions in New York. He described the latest round as potentially “constructive and promising.”
Kallas Calls for Free Navigation
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas also met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in New York.
Kallas said they discussed efforts to end the war and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
She stressed that navigation should remain free and unimpeded through both Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb.
Kallas also raised concerns about the situation inside Iran, including reported increases in executions and death sentences.
Explosion Reported Near Qeshm Island
Meanwhile, an explosion was heard near Iran’s Qeshm Island in Hormozgan province.
Iranian state media reported that the sound came from the direction of the sea.
Authorities said no missile or rocket had struck the island. However, officials had not immediately provided a clear explanation for the blast.
Qeshm is located near the Strait of Hormuz, making the incident notable amid continued military and maritime tensions in the region.
Fighting Intensifies in Southern Yemen
Elsewhere, Yemeni government forces said they had taken control of Mount Qarfan in southern Taiz province.
Major General Abdulaziz Al-Majidi said government forces and local fighters captured the strategic position after clashes with Houthi forces.
He claimed that more than five Houthi fighters were killed and around 20 others were wounded. The Houthis did not immediately comment on the reported territorial loss.
Mount Qarfan sits along a mountain chain between Ash Shamaytayn and Al-Wazi’iyah districts.
Its elevated position provides control over surrounding valleys and important observation points.
The latest fighting comes as clashes have intensified around strategic areas near Yemen’s Red Sea coast and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

For now, diplomatic efforts remain focused on ending the US-Iran war and restoring safe navigation through key waterways.
