Tasnim report claims Tehran threatened hundreds of Syrian targets if Damascus deployed forces against Hezbollah inside Lebanon

TEHRAN: Iran reportedly warned Syria that it would launch missile and drone strikes against hundreds of targets across Syrian territory if Damascus intervened militarily in Lebanon against Hezbollah, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.

The reported warning represented a potentially significant escalation in regional tensions as competing powers sought to shape developments in Lebanon.

According to the report, Tehran communicated its message to Syrian authorities through Türkiye, warning that any Syrian military intervention against Hezbollah would trigger a large-scale Iranian response.

Iran allegedly identified hundreds of potential targets across Syria, including strategically important government and military locations.

Presidential Palace Reportedly Included Among Potential Targets

Tasnim reported that Iran specifically warned that the Presidential Palace could be among the locations targeted if Syrian forces entered Lebanon to confront Hezbollah.

The reported message indicated that Tehran was prepared to employ both drones and missiles against targets throughout Syria rather than limiting retaliation to Syrian forces operating near the Lebanese border.

However, neither Syrian nor Turkish authorities immediately provided independent confirmation of the reported exchange.

The claim therefore remains based on Tasnim’s account of communications between the governments.

Damascus Reportedly Softens Position After Warning

Following Iran’s warning, Syria reportedly reduced its public anti-Hezbollah rhetoric and moved to reassure both Tehran and Beirut that Syrian forces would not intervene militarily inside Lebanon.

According to the report, Damascus privately communicated that it had no intention of entering the Lebanese conflict against Hezbollah.

Consequently, the alleged Iranian warning appears to have been designed as deterrence, preventing another regional actor from opening an additional military front against the Lebanese group.

Hezbollah remains one of Iran’s most important regional allies, making developments affecting the group strategically significant for Tehran.

If confirmed, the warning would also demonstrate Iran’s willingness to threaten direct military action against a neighbouring state to prevent intervention against its allies.
