Iran has condemned recent US-Saudi airstrikes in Iraq, describing them as clear aggression. Tehran said the attacks violated Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the strikes breached international law. The ministry also claimed the attacks could expand regional conflict.
In an official statement, Iran expressed solidarity with Iraq’s government and people. It also blamed the United States and its regional partners for potential consequences.
PMF Reports Casualties and Damage Across Iraq
The statement followed claims by Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF). The group said the overnight strikes killed at least 20 members and wounded 32 others.
According to the PMF, attacks targeted facilities in Baghdad, Wasit, Nineveh, Basra, Kirkuk, Karbala, and Diyala. The group reported extensive damage to headquarters, vehicles, and equipment.
Furthermore, the PMF described the operation as a “treacherous terrorist attack.” Officials said specialised committees are assessing the full extent of losses.
The strikes marked the first reported US military action in the region since President Donald Trump paused bombing operations against Iran last week.
US Says Operation Targeted Iranian-Aligned Groups
Meanwhile, the US Central Command said American and Saudi forces conducted joint precision strikes. According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted Iranian-aligned groups in Iraq.
US officials claimed the sites were linked to attacks on American forces. They also alleged connections to threats against Saudi energy infrastructure.
CENTCOM stated that fighter jets struck logistics and weapons facilities in eastern Iraq. The military said the action followed more than 30 drone attacks within 72 hours.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia publicly confirmed participation in the joint operation. Analysts believe the development could broaden regional tensions and create a new front in the conflict.
The situation continues to draw international attention as regional powers exchange accusations. Concerns remain over the possibility of further escalation.
