Iran claimed it destroyed three US F-35 fighter jets during a missile attack on Jordan’s al-Azraq Air Base. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the operation on Thursday. However, US and Jordanian authorities have not independently confirmed the claims. The reported attack followed rising military tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Iran Alleges Heavy Damage After Missile Attack
According to the IRGC, the strike targeted aircraft maintenance facilities at al-Azraq Air Base. Iranian officials claimed ballistic missiles destroyed three F-35 fighter jets. They also alleged missiles severely damaged three additional aircraft. Furthermore, Iran claimed several US military personnel died during the attack. Independent sources have not verified these reported casualties.
Iran said the attack responded to recent US strikes on Qeshm Island. Iranian media reported the strikes killed three family members. Additionally, two children reportedly suffered injuries during the attack. Iran also announced three Revolutionary Guard personnel died in separate US missile strikes. Consequently, the IRGC vowed retaliation against what it described as American aggression.
Regional Tensions Continue To Escalate
Meanwhile, Jordan said its air defence systems intercepted five Iranian missiles. Authorities reported no casualties or property damage from the interceptions. Moreover, Jordan confirmed this marked the fourth consecutive day of missile interceptions.
Iraq rejected claims that recent attacks originated from its territory. Officials stressed only Iraqi security forces remain responsible for national defence.
Meanwhile, Iran confirmed diplomatic discussions with Omani officials continue in Tehran. Iranian officials blamed US and Israeli military operations for instability across the region. They also linked shipping disruptions to the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, the IRGC claimed two oil tankers turned back after one vessel caught fire.
Finally, the United Nations urged all parties to halt military operations immediately. Secretary-General António Guterres warned continued escalation could further destabilise the Middle East
