New appointments place senior military and security figures across the Armed Forces, IRGC, Navy and Basij command structure
TEHRAN: Iran’s leadership has announced a major reshuffle of the country’s military command, appointing senior figures to key positions across the Armed Forces and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as Tehran reorganises its security establishment.
Under the new appointments, S. Ali Abdollahi has been named Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, placing him at the centre of Iran’s overall military command structure and coordination between different branches.
Meanwhile, A. Kiyomarth Heydari has been appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, giving him a senior role in military planning and coordination.
New Commanders Named Across IRGC Leadership
As part of the changes, S. Ahmad Vahidi has been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, assuming responsibility for one of Iran’s most influential military and security institutions.
Furthermore, S. Mostafa Izadi has been named Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, strengthening the organisation’s senior command structure.
The appointments represent a significant reorganisation of Iran’s military hierarchy and place experienced security officials in strategically important positions.
IRGC Navy and Basij Receive New Leadership
Meanwhile, D. Ali Azami has been appointed commander of the IRGC Navy, which plays a central role in Iran’s maritime strategy, particularly in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
Additionally, H. Hossein Taeb has been appointed head of the Basij Organisation, the nationwide paramilitary force operating under the IRGC.
The appointments come as Iran faces heightened regional security pressures and continues strengthening coordination among its military institutions.
The leadership changes could consequently influence Iran’s defence planning, maritime posture and internal security strategy.
Iranian authorities have not provided extensive details regarding the immediate operational priorities of the newly appointed commanders. However, the reshuffle places several experienced military and security figures at the highest levels of the country’s defence establishment during a period of considerable regional tension.
