Iran said on Monday it is not holding talks with the United States and is instead negotiating with Oman on a temporary safe shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.
Hormuz negotiations continue
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said discussions with Oman focus on a single route with separate entry and exit lanes. However, he stressed that any agreement with Oman alone would not reopen the strategic waterway.
Moreover, Baghaei said the situation would remain unchanged while what he described as ongoing US “aggression” continued. He also confirmed that Iran has no plans to send or receive any delegation in the coming days.
Meanwhile, CNN reported that a senior officer at the US Central Command asked military analysts to suggest “creative and unconventional” ways to increase pressure on Iran. According to the report, the email reflected efforts to reassess Washington’s strategy.
Trump claims talks will begin
However, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that talks with Iran would begin on Monday. He added that discussions involving Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran convinced him to cancel a planned military strike.
Furthermore, Trump claimed Iran and regional countries urged Washington to avoid military action and pursue a negotiated settlement. However, Tehran’s latest statement contradicted his remarks by denying any ongoing negotiations with the United States.
