Apple’s foldable smartphone is gaining wider app support, with more than 100,000 applications now optimized for the iPhone Duo. The milestone comes just two weeks after the device began shipping, highlighting the speed of developer adoption.
Apple says developers are adding thousands of newly optimized applications to the App Store every day. As a result, users can access a growing selection of apps designed to work with the foldable display.
Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, said developers have embraced the new device quickly.
Popular Apps Now Optimized for iPhone Duo
Several widely used applications have already received updates for Apple’s foldable smartphone. These include Microsoft Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint and Word, alongside popular social media and entertainment platforms.
Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, Netflix, Zoom and Amazon Prime Video also support the device. Moreover, Apple highlighted several other applications that have adapted their interfaces.
These include Etsy, Goodnotes, Halide Mark III, NBA, NHL, Fantastical, Flighty, MLB and SmartGym.
Apple identifies compatible applications through a “Made for iPhone Duo” badge. Users can find this label on the relevant App Store pages when browsing directly from the device.
Apple Steps Up Developer Support for Foldable Apps
Apple has also increased its efforts to help developers adapt their applications. Over the past month, the company organised more than 50 in-person workshops across 19 cities.
More than 2,000 developers participated in these sessions. The workshops focused on helping developers improve app layouts and take advantage of the foldable display.
Apple says applications built with standard SwiftUI and UIKit components can automatically adjust to the iPhone Duo’s displays. Therefore, developers may not need extensive changes for basic compatibility.
However, Apple has introduced additional APIs for more advanced customisation. These tools allow developers to create tailored layouts and adjust application interfaces according to the foldable phone’s hinge positions.
Consequently, developers can build experiences that make better use of the device’s different display configurations.
Many iPhone Duo Apps Still Need Updates
Despite the growing number of optimized applications, app compatibility remains a work in progress. The App Store contains millions of titles, and many have not yet received full iPhone Duo support.
Older applications can still run on the foldable smartphone. However, some do not properly fill its inner display, leaving unused space around their interfaces.
This can affect the overall viewing experience, particularly on the device’s larger screen. Therefore, developers still have considerable work ahead to improve compatibility.
Google Maps is among the latest applications to receive an update for full iPhone Duo compatibility.
Apple Expects Foldable App Support to Keep Growing
Apple expects developers to continue releasing optimized applications at an increasing pace. The company is also encouraging developers to explore new ways of using the foldable display.
The latest milestone suggests that app developers are responding quickly to Apple’s new hardware. Nevertheless, users may still encounter applications that need further improvements.
As more developers update their software, the iPhone Duo’s app experience could become increasingly consistent across its displays.
