Apple could significantly increase prices for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models as rising memory costs push smartphone manufacturing expenses higher, according to estimates from research firm TrendForce.
Less than a week before Apple’s expected September 9 launch event, TrendForce estimates that the iPhone 18 Pro could start between $1,249 and $1,299. By comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro launched at $1,099.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could carry a starting price between $1,349 and $1,399, up from $1,199 for its predecessor.
Overall, TrendForce expects Apple to increase Pro-model prices by around 10% to 20%.
Foldable iPhone Could Start Above $2,000
Furthermore, TrendForce expects Apple’s first foldable iPhone, sometimes referred to as the iPhone Ultra, to start between $2,099 and $2,299. Its highest-storage configuration could reportedly exceed $3,000.
The regular iPhone 18 is not expected until spring 2027. Nevertheless, the research firm predicts a similar 10% to 20% price increase for that model.
Memory Costs Put Pressure on Apple
TrendForce identified rapidly rising memory prices as the primary factor behind the anticipated increases.
According to the firm, the cost of a 256GB memory chip has climbed nearly 400% year-on-year. Additionally, its analysis estimates that the overall bill of materials for a 256GB Pro model has increased by approximately 38%.
However, Apple could absorb part of the additional cost through reduced profit margins rather than passing the entire increase to customers.
The estimates remain unofficial, and Apple has not confirmed pricing for its upcoming devices. The company is expected to reveal final prices during its “Surprise and shine” event on Wednesday, September 9.
